Find out how easy it is to get a dental crown in only one quick trip.
When it comes to getting restorative dentistry, you may feel as if it takes far too much time out of your schedule. You may hate the idea of having to come back to the office multiple times just to get the restoration your smile needs to stay healthy. Of course, what if we told you that our Elk Grove Village and Melrose Park, IL, dentist, Dr. Scott Szatkowski, could provide you with a brand new dental crown in just one visit?
This might seem like a dream, but with our CEREC technology, we make it possible to get the restoration you need without having to come back for several visits. With traditional crowns you have to go through a consultation phase, then the tooth has to be prepared and impressions have to be taken. Then these impressions are sent to an outside lab, where they can take up to one week or more just to create your restoration. Then you have to come back into our office to have the crown placed. Seems like a hassle right? Now with CEREC crowns, we eliminate that extra visit.
How do same-day crowns work?
Once we determine that your damaged tooth is ideas for a dental crown, we will take pictures of your smile using a very small handheld camera. This makes it faster, easier and far more pleasant than using traditional molds. These images are instantly uploaded to our computer, where it creates 3D images of your mouth. These images will allow us to design a crown that offers a precise fit. Often times, other restorations like veneers or onlays/inlays can also be made using this same technology.
Once we have designed the crown, the milling machine will chisel your crown from a porcelain block that has been chosen to match the color of your teeth so you get a restoration that seamlessly blends into the rest of your smile. Once the crown has been fabricated, it is ready to be cemented into place over your tooth. Now that the crown is cemented into place you now have a new and improved smile.
