If you have ever had restorative dental work done, you may be familiar with dental crowns. Dental crowns are a tooth-shaped “cap” that fit over a natural tooth. Crowns are notoriously time-consuming, taking several appointments to plan, create and install. However, did you know there is a way to have your crown finished in only one appointment? Now, with same-day crowns, you can do just that.Crowns

What are same day crowns?
The procedure for traditional crowns involves three major steps. First, an impression of the tooth is taken so the crown can be custom made to fit precisely over your tooth. Then, the mold is sent away to a dental laboratory, and there, the crown itself is created. At your next appointment, the crown will be fitted and permanently cemented to your tooth.

Same day crowns have the same exact effect as traditional crowns. However, same day crowns can be created right in your dentist’s office, allowing the laboratory step to be skipped completely. A digital model of the tooth is taken and used to create a porcelain crown via a specialized machine, meaning the process takes only a few hours rather than several weeks.

What do crowns do?
Crowns are used to strengthen a weakened tooth. They can be used to restore cracked, broken or worn down teeth, or to give extra stability to teeth that have been filled due to a cavity or root canal. Crowns may also be used to hold a dental bridge in place or to attach to a dental implant. Crowns can even be used to give new life to misshaped or stained teeth.
